Night of the Living Dead: Barbara Zombie

In the original Night of the Living Dead, the last we see of the main character, Barbara, her delicate fingers are disappearing into a mob of the undead as she screams.  What happened to Barbara after her undead brother pulled her through the door and out into the horde?  Here is my vision of this undiscovered zombie.

I imagine that her brother pulled her close in a last terrifying embrace.  Some ghost of a memory of her lingering in his undead brain.  He just wanted a last bit of affection, a quick kiss on his beloved sister's neck.  From there, I am sure the rest of the crowd took their sanguine liberties with Barbara's free arm and leg.  With so many devouring mouths, poor doomed Barbara did not last long and was cast aside for the fresher meat within the farmhouse.  Luckily for Barbara, her transition was quick.  She rose almost immediately, her wounds still fresh, overwhelmed by her new existence, her ravenous hunger.

UPDATE 05.09.13:

I've been meaning to get the greyscale for this piece finished for some time.  Other things kept jumping in front, but I finally sat down and put on Night of the Living Dead and stayed until the greyscale was complete.  With this being Barbara, I wanted to do something a little special and give her a fancy background.

Great work! Both in the imagining of Barbara's last moments and, of course, the drawing. I particularly like her right arm. Reminds me of the silhouettes of the zombies emerging from the plane wreckage in the "B-52" sequence of Heavy Metal.

Thanks. :-)

I had this grand plan to do a Weekly Zombie, but like so many of my plans this past year, it got dashed by the tumult I call my life. It may still happen though, just sometime much later.

Thanks on the arm. Doing research for that was a little disturbing. I do a lot of creepy inference here on ZB, but seeing a photo of a bite taken out of someone's arm is unsettling. That sequence of Heavy Metal is one of my favorites.

Sorry for the major delay on replying to the comments...I'm still trying to get back on track after the bombardment of the beginning of this year. I'm finally beginning to feel a little more like myself again.

I'm trying to get into a rhythm of doing regular zombies, hasn't worked out so far, but recent events may change all that. Thanks for visiting and commenting!
