Featured Creature: Devil's Square, Scrag

Excerpt from Liam Hofstadter's report for the Department of Extranormal Phenomena (DEP), Superhuman and Supernatural Threats in the New Millennium

The vampire, Scrag, was resurrected and released from his tomb by The Devil's Square. It is the assumption of this department that he was raised from his vampiric torpor with the lifeblood of the thirteen corpses found drained at the site of his tomb.

Our research of his tomb indicates a connection between Scrag and Vlad the impaler, Count Dracula.  That relationship is one of lethal hostility as sources also indicate that it was Dracula who imprisoned Scrag in the tomb where the Square found him.  As to Scrag's identity concurrent with Vlad Tepes, our researchers have a body of possible candidates, but little definitive evidence as Scrag's transformation into a vampire has obviously changed his appearance dramatically.  We are also considering the possibility that Scrag was created long after Dracula himself had become a vampire.  We will keep you apprised as our research develops.

Scrag's aspect and power base do not match the characteristics of any recorded encounters with modern vampires.  With his lineage indicating a connection to one of the first ever recorded Vampyr and his centuries plus age, he is most likely the purest form of vampire this department has ever encountered.  As there have been no recorded sightings of Dracula since Stoker's novel, it is the recommendation of this department that Scrag be captured for examination and vivisection.

I am loving The Devil's Square series! I assume you've got eventual plans to develop this into a comic, right? I mean seriously, dude.

Thanks. I've really enjoyed working on these guys. For an out of the blue idea, they have kind of written a story for themselves. ... and yes, I am actually planning a comic book for them. Working on The Devil's Square has kind of been like watching salt crystals form in solution. They are tying together other stories I've been working on for years. I really hope I can get them to published fruition. Sadly I'm on hold right now until I can get my computer working again. I've got two more pieces in this set to post once I'm back up and running.

Sorry to hear of the computer troubles. Wish I could throw some cash your way but all the mandatory overtime has pretty much dried up lately, which is good for free time but bad for extra cash on hand.

Hang in there and keep producing. Things will work themselves out : )

I appreciate the thought. :-) I've got computer experts on my end on it. I just hate being late with my posts. I think this may be a universe enforced vacation. My health hasn't been great lately and this is forcing me to rest..like it or not. Who knows...maybe once all this is done maybe ill actually get ahead and stay there :-P
