From the Archives: Flaming Sword

This was an older digital piece that never really reached a satisfactory level of completion.  The piece began as an imagining of DC Comics' Spectre, but quickly departed from that idea once I got into the piece.

From the Archives: Sub Basement

Here we have a creepy super science sub basement where something horrible escaped.  This was a development sketch for a comic book story I was working on at the time.  It kind of went to the back burners, but it may come back eventually.  Like zombies, stories rarely stay dead forever.  :-)

From the Archives: Angry Guy

Occasionally my angry faces will go a bit cartoony.  Here is one such from the traveling sketchbook.

Here are several hand studies and a bearded guy from my traveling sketchbook.

From the Archives: Purple Sharpie Portrait

This is me playing with purple sharpies again.  A quick portrait here exploring some P. Craig Russell style line work.  I think I'd just gotten some new sharpies and was breaking them in.  Not as much time to noodle things the way I used to.  I used to get lost in the lines for hours.

From the Archives: Wounded Heart

Here's a quick sketch from an old sketchbook.  I used Sharpie and a ball point on this one.  I think I was at work when I did it.  If cleaned up and redrawn, I think this would make a decent tattoo design.

From the Sketchbook Archives: The Immensity

A sketch for a larger piece.  This image had been haunting me for awhile, waiting to be addressed. My original thought for this was as a large painting.  I forget where the idea came from, but I want to layer transparent black to develop a subliminal visual space within the piece.  In the meantime, a footnote here to keep the idea burning.  These kinds of ideas never go away, but they do change form.

UPDATE Sketchbook Archives: Winged Cat Demon

Here is another of the rescanned images from the sketchbook.  On this one, the scan was so much better than the photo I took, I didn't have to touch up the image at all.  Please check out the old post and compare.

From the Sketchbook Archives: Winged Cat Demon

Another from the sketchbooks.  Quick sketch of a cat demon thingie.  I figured they would still chase twitchy little rodents even if they had bat wings.  As you can see, I never decided on the tail.  Also, I think this might be a dark aspect of my personality when I get too dehydrated.

UPDATE:

Another update from the Rescans.  On this one, the scan was so much better than the photo I took, I didn't have to touch up the image at all.  On the first image, I had to adjust the brightness, contrast, and sharpness. Here you can see the molten deliciousness of the Sharpie where I filled in the blacks.  It looks almost exactly like the original image.  ...mmmmm Sharpie.  :-)

From the Sketchbook Archives: Night Thing

Silently, across the sea of night,
a sound like wind in the leaves.
I hold my breath and stand stock still
until it passes.
The chill of its presence
makes my breath a faint cloud.
I rush to the safety and warmth of interior light
and check all the bolts on my locks.
Outside, the tree limbs creak
at the touch of the wind.
"Perhaps," I think,
and light a candle for protection.

Full Moon Madness

The Full Moon in October hit me pretty hard.
made me realize some things about myself.
I think I might be a werewolf. LOL...
or maybe just psychotic.

OUT OF BOUNDS

OUT OF BOUNDS
This is an ad I did for my Local Pride store.
I've got a blog set up for them HERE
Please check it out.
Sadly, OUT OF BOUNDS is the ONLY pride store in South Carolina at this point.
If you live in Greenville, SC, drop in and buy something.
they need all the support they can get.

Satyr

Satyr

and I think he might be wearing an Hawaiian shirt.
Nothing but trouble!

Hole in the Sky

Hole in the Sky

not sure if the moon needs to be there,
but after awhile it seemed empty without it.

What I Found

Another of my favorite mental places.
Although sometimes difficult to climb to.

The Green Knight

Green Knight

I was trying for something completely different
and ran into this guy on the way.
He makes me nervous,
but strangely I'm not AFRAID of him.

Bifrost

I keep discovering Viking iconography
in my personal mythology.
It took me the better part of 7 years
of drawing this image again and again
to finally get the message and the name.
