Countdown to SPARTANCCON

This coming Saturday, May 10th, I will be showing in the Artist's Alley at SPARTANCON. The con will held in downtown Spartanburg at the Main Branch of the library.  Please check out the link for more info.  I only just found out about Spartancon this past week and I was lucky that they still had space available in their artists alley.  I've been rushing about trying to get everything together in time.

From the Archives: What the Owl Said...

I know the text piece here is a bit on the nose, but both these pieces were in my sketchbook from the same time period and I felt they needed to appear together.  At the time I was working at (then) Kinko's copies running a machine called a Docutech.  It had an image manipulation software for document clean up that I occasionally found interesting imagery with.  The word above was one such incidence.  So I enlarged it and printed out a copy.

Featured Creature: In The Cities

"In the cities, the effects of the plague were much worse.  Within the massive populations of larger cities, the infection spread almost overnight.  The newly dead, enclosed within the complex networks of city infrastructures, were restricted to close quarters and did not disburse into smaller groups as in rural areas.

Saturday Sketch: Wolverine's Skeleton

I hadn't planned on exploring this as a sketch, but as things kept moving with the Magick set, I figured I owed it to Wolvy.  He doesn't actually appear in Magik, but he does show up in the Uncanny X-Men #160 issue that leads into the limited series.  He only appears for a couple of pages at the foot of Belasco's throne but I feel that any dead X-Man deserves remembrance.  His corpse doesn't hold the same emotional impact as Colossus' from the previous sketch, but the fleshless bones of Wolverine are a omen of doom all their own.

Exhumed: Open Skull

Here we have a quick sketch of a strange skull.  With the color reinvestiagtion I wanted to give it an environment to inhabit.  I figured the skull has been sitting about for quite a long time collecting dust in some dark dungeon corner.

Psyche Delectus: Walpurgisnacht

Here is an bonus Psyche Delectus piece for this week in celebration of Walpurgisnacht.  This time period is also the same as the Wiccan / Gaelic sabbat, Beltane.  A happy Spring to all!  May your bonfires burn bright!  Only 6 months now until Halloween!  :-)

From the Archives: Dance of Death and Life

Here is a sharpie sketch from long ago.  I don't remember my exact inspiration for this piece but it is one of the few feminine/female nudes I've done.

Featured Creature: The Moonlight Calls It Forth

"We entered the graveyard in the hour after midnight and it was not long before we saw the thing.  We noticed a figure moving oddly in the shadow of a tall tree.  As we walked closer, the horror that had been a man emerged into the full light of the moon.

Its putrescence was obvious as it staggered slowly towards us.  The rancid odor coming off the thing poisoned the very air.  I covered my mouth with the neck of my shirt to keep from retching.
