From the Archives: Haunted

With the header for November 2015 I opted for a bit photo manipulation instead of a drawing - I ran out of time.  I was working with an older photo of myself for a different piece and it became this header.  I've gotten a good bit of mileage out of this image of me with a sheet wrapped around me as a hood.  It has been a creepy gif, the deadly sin of pride, a white wizard, and here a somber figure in the blood soaked bounds of the haunted forest.

For 2015, I wanted to take the headers in a different direction than the work I had been producing.  I chose to adopt a looser style.  Although the 2014 pieces all had some underlying element of dark humor or social commentary, the 2015 headers have all moved back towards the essence of the work I want to create: horror.

Happy Birthday Featured Creature!

It was one year ago today that I began the weekly Featured Creature postings.  In celebration of that frightful day, here's a juicy treat.  I couldn't afford a whole fancy cake right now, but I did get you something bite sized and memorable.  It's the thought that counts, right?  Happy Birthday Featured Creature!

From the Archives: Digital Zombie Self-Portrait

In this piece I was trying to develop a digital style to help create comics more easily.  This method turned out to be much more involved and time consuming than simple hand drawing.  I do like the final look of this piece, but it took way too much time to get to arrive at this state.

Self Portrait: This Has Always Been Within Me

Due to the recent ingress of Pluto into Capricorn, it would seem the Universe wants my molten core raw and exposed.  Despite my reservations, despite any resistance on my part, my illusions continue to drip away like overheated wax.  I'm forced to allow it, because... well, it's the Universe.  You can say no, but it's wasted breath.  All you can do is manage the pain and shake your fist at the uncaring sky screaming every expletive and curse you know.  Many have questioned this action on my part, but I think that it is important to lodge a complaint even if the boss is the system / Universe your immersed in.  At least if anything else, they will know that you did not bow willingly.

The Last Bites of 2012 Part II: The King Beneath the Soil

The Last Bites of 2012 Part I: Janus Tunnel

As difficult as 2012 has been, there have been several positive developments within Zombie Bites and beyond.  July and August brought a collaboration with the Horror Blogger Alliance curator Jeremy Hawkins, aka Retro-Zombie, to create the 2012 designs for the HBA Tshirts.  Also this year I finally realized a vision that I have been working towards since I began revitalizing Zombie Bites: The Weekly Featured Creature.  I've had the idea since I began this blog, but circumstances and opportunity haven't coincided until this year.  I'm just pleased that the creatures have been so well received.  My number of page views has nearly doubled since the Featured Creature began!  Thanks to everyone for your interest and support!

The Last Bites of 2012 Part I: Janus Tunnel

I find myself in a strange emotional space as 2012 winds down to a close.  This past year has been incredibly turbulent and in many ways disheartening, but as I look across the work I created during this year, I feel uplifted.  If anything else fell to the wayside or was destroyed by the chaotic forces unleashed in 2012, at least this body of work came through me.  This year has tested me in ways I never imagined possible, but at least amidst the waves of tumult, I managed to keep the art flowing.

When in Deep Water...

When I began working on this, it was going to be a more detailed interpretation of the sketch I did for The BlackSun, but as I continued, it became something more.

UPDATE 091014:  A permutation of this piece is now available on a tshirt design or other cool paraphernalia at my Neatoshop!  Drop by and check it out!

HIM

I am challenged by this part of myself, yet often I find it necessary to my survival. He holds many of my needed powers and abilities, yet his very presence is a test of endurance.  The stern and exacting essence of Saturn the taskmaster.  Yet, it is not hate that he brings, just intensity.  I say JUST intensity, like intensity could ever be anything but INTENSE.  Once I realized that it was intensity and endurance, it became easier.  I understood his directness.  His message bypasses all the petty illusions we construct.  Like an arrow, his goes straight to the heart of the matter.  This is a challenge if your eyes do not want to see the truth.

Searching The Sky

This is the image for the cover of my current Resume / Portfolio.  I just like it by itself though without all the pesky text.  Also, it is flipped.  Some of these elements are part of my business card as well.  I'll have to find that and post as well.  :-) Enjoi!
