Here is a second sketch and the final piece of my Golden Age Doctor Fate set. There are several characters from the early stories that I haven't addressed. I may add them to the set later, but for the time being this is the last.

Saturday Sketch: Golden Age Ian Karkull
One of Doctor Fate's earlier villains, Ian Karkull plagues Doctor Fate and the Golden Age Green Lantern well into the modern age of comics. During their first encounter, it is Doctor Fate that causes Karkull to become trapped in his shadow form.

Saturday Sketch: Mango the Mighty
Here we have one of Doctor Fate's early adversaries, Mango the Mighty. Although his name doesn't exactly inspire fear, this sorcerer was murdering people with globes of fire before the Doctor finally shows up. Mango also summons a horde of angry undead, the Legions of the Styx, to fight for him against the Doctor but in the end he loses. Of course.

Saturday Sketch: Golden Age Nabu
Here we have the ancient Egyptian Lord of Order, Nabu the Wise, as he appeared in Doctor Fate's Origin in More Fun Comics #67. I've always been fascinated by the symbiotic relationship between Nabu and Kent Nelson as the Doctor.

Saturday Sketch: Norn Giant
Here we have a Norn Giant from one of Doctor Fate's early adventures. These guys are several stories tall. I made him appear more angry than the giants appear in the original strip. I also neutralized the colors just a tad to make them more palatable.

Saturday Sketch: Golden Age Kent Nelson
I don't know much about Kent Nelson from the original Doctor Fate stories. I've always been much more interested in Doctor Fate anyway. Much like the sketch of Inza Cramer, the fun in this piece was doing the research into vintage clothing and hairstyles.

Saturday Sketch: Golden Age Inza Cramer
Here we have, Inza Cramer, trusted companion to the original Doctor Fate. Inza eventually marries Kent Nelson, host of the Doctor, and eventually goes on to assume the mantle of Doctor Fate herself. This piece was fun because I had the opportunity to explore the hairstyles and clothing of 1939-1940 from around the time that the Doctor and Inza made their first appearances.

Saturday Sketch: Golden Age Fate's Tower
Returning my focus to DC Comics, I figured I would pick up where I left off with Classic Doctor Fate and explore some of the people, places, and artifacts from the beginning of his mythos. Here we have the classic version of Fate's Tower. I've always been
fascinated by the Doctor's tower especially in more modern versions with
its Escher like mystical landscapes within. I'd never read the older Doctor Fate stories from More Fun Comics until I began working on these pieces. They have a Sunday newspaper comic strip quality to them.
